Everything you need to know about witnessing the sacred 4:00 AM Bhasma Aarti at Ujjain, including online quota slots, offline counter protocols, and traditional attire rules.
The **Bhasma Aarti** of Shri Mahakaleshwar is one of the most spiritually electrifying rituals in Hinduism. Occurring every morning between 04:00 AM and 06:00 AM, the deity is bathed with sacred chants, panchamrit, and sanctified cremation ash (vibhuti).
### 1. How to Book Bhasma Aarti
- **Online Advance Quota**: Opens on the official Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple Trust website roughly 30 days in advance at 08:00 AM. Requires valid Aadhaar card and photo upload.
- **Offline Counter Quota**: Available at the temple booking counter (opposite gate 4) at 07:00 AM on a first-come, first-served basis for the next morning's aarti.
- Devotees must carry their original photo ID during entry.
### 2. Strict Traditional Dress Code
- **For Men**: Unstitched traditional Indian Dhoti and Sola (Angavastram / cotton towel on shoulder). No pants, jeans, or shirts allowed inside the sanctum sanctorum (garbhagriha).
- **For Women**: Traditional Saree (preferably cotton or silk). Salwar suits or Western clothes are not permitted inside the inner jalabhishek zone.
### 3. Reporting Time
Devotees must reach Gate No. 4 between 01:30 AM and 02:30 AM. Security clearance and biometric verification begin around 02:45 AM.
### 4. Accommodation Recommendation
Booking a hotel within 300m - 500m of Gate No. 4 (such as Hotel Mahakal Heritage or Hotel Rudraksh Inn) saves the hassle of finding transport at 01:30 AM in the morning.
